Girl Meets World

I have never known what it means to experience rape, to be beaten, or abused and I am immensely thankful for this. But there are thousands, if not millions of women, who have survived this torture and abuse of their humanity right here in our own community, and all across the world.

I recently came across the experiences of a village of women in Kenya, who are part of a community called Umoja. They are Samburu women who have fled their homes because they were beaten, raped, or abused, and thus outcast. The village of Umoja is now a safe haven for women that wishes to uplift and empower anyone who seeks refuge. When I came across the stories of these women my heart cried deeply. I wanted to be able to do something to show solidarity and to bring hope, but I knew the least I could do is share their story.

Below you will find a video that better articulates the strength and experiences of the Samburu women along with ways to support their efforts such as buying a necklace, or downloading a song, and of course you too can share their story. We must care and we must speak out.
